«The Rhythm of Bos en Lommer»
For two years, I returned to the same spot in Bos en Lommer, Amsterdam, where a narrow beam of morning sunlight cuts through the darkness beneath a bridge. As cyclists passed through the light, an ordinary commute became a fleeting portrait session. For a fraction of a second, each person was separated from their surroundings, caught between shadow and sunlight.
Photographed from a fixed position, the repetition reveals difference: age, style, pace, posture, expression, family life and the small details of daily routine. Together, the images form a portrait of a neighbourhood in motion. The Rhythm of Bos en Lommer is a study of repetition, individuality and the brief moments in which everyday life becomes theatrical.
